Something’s Wrong with the USA
|Anthony Freda Art|
What’s wrong with the USA? Isn’t that a question that elicits more answers than we have time to read about here? But, one of the inevitable answers that I want to feature is this: The USA does NOT recognize an individual’s constitutional right to a healthy environment! Are readers aware of that?
Dr. David R. Boyd, one of Canada's leading experts in environmental law and policy and an adjunct professor at Simon Fraser University's School of Resource and Environmental Management, points out that fact—rather significantly—in his 2012 article, “The Constitutional Right to a Healthy Environment” wherein he supplies two graphics of countries around the globe, which recognize that right in their constitutions, but the USA is not one of them! Furthermore, there is no proposed Constitutional Amendment trying to work its way around the country or through the constitutional process of adding that right to the U.S. Constitution/Bill of Rights.
Surprisingly, readers will learn upon studying Dr. Boyd’s graphics that there are some countries that recognize that right in legislation or international agreements as of 2012, but when it comes to aconstitutional right, there is a difference.
