Germany’s Der Freitag newspaper believes that Ukraine’s lopsided pro-Western policy, its nationalist and militant stance will lead to the loss of half of its population "Some Ukrainian regions have become extremely radicalized, and people with different opinions are branded as ‘Kremlin agents,’ ‘separatists,’ ‘secret service operatives’ or ‘traitors’ and subjected to violent attacks," the article reads, in part.
Elections in Donetsk and Luhansk have confirmed the anti-Kyiv stance of eastern Ukraine, as well its complete rejection of Western policies. In this context, it will be necessary to respect the democratic will of the majority, although the West is not ready for this, the publication notes.

Western media always uses such expressions as the “so-called elections” and “pseudo-elections.” The ZDF 7 television channel used the word “allegedly” seven times in its elections story. But the fact that most Ukrainians do not support the pro-Western line is being hushed up. Moreover, no mention is being made of the opposition bloc’s victory in Donetsk, Luhansk and even Dnipropetrovsk.
"Western propaganda is now trying to conceal the fact that voter turnout was just 50 percent during the Kyiv-sponsored elections. What makes this even more ridiculous is that eastern Ukraine, which has now seceded, has always accounted for 30-40 percent of the votes," the author writes.
Therefore, according to Der Freitag, the West is being "antidemocratic in ignoring the people’s will if it does not conform to the desired Western reality."
